Lesser, greater, middling… Makes no difference. [big]B[/big]orn to traders in Velen, Victor had always been a troublemaker. One to always go against the wishes of his parents and elders, Victor quickly became a nuisance to those in the small hamlet he lived in. At the age of seven his father had had enough of his antics and trouble making. The boy was taken to the swamps, and told that he would follow the Trail of Treats. Everyone knows the old wives tales. Witches, living in gingerbread houses atop chicken legs wait in the forests and swamps of Velen, leading children to lives of happy endings through trails of sweets and tasty treats. The reality of this trail is... unsavory, to say the least. Victor wandered through the murky fog of the swamps, finding no such trail, no huts of gingerbread or any such nonsense. What he found, as he ventured deeper into that abyss of fog and dank air was a man. Though, as he moved about, battling the wretched, screeching spawn that were Drowners, he looked more a demon than human. Fast as the blink of an eye, with arms that swung a glinting, silver blade, the man had unknowingly saved Victor from the bloodthirsty creatures. Scared, lost, and abandoned, Victor clung to the person that had saved him from a grisly fate: Vesemir, a Witcher, one that slew monsters for coin. [big]V[/big]ictor was taken under the witcher's wing, sheltered at the school of the wolf's keep at Kaer Morhen. There he studied, day in and day out, as he was slowly taught the ways of a monster slayer. Hours of work each and every day with a blade wore his hands to blisters, bleeding from the work he put in. He spent days in their study, looking over tomes that detailed the anatomy of beasts small and large, mysterious and plainly dangerous. As time went on, he became more and more familiar with his skills, more confident in his steps. He wasn't alone, though. Accompanying him were two other boys, all near his age, as they all were trained to become like Vesemir and his ilk. Time passed, and on Victor's fifteenth birthday the final trial in his training. He, alongside the others he trained with, underwent the Trial of the Grasses. Powerful alchemical regents were administered to them, wreaking havoc on their nervous systems. As Victor writhed with pain on the floor of the Kaer Morhen labs, his eyes lost the green pigment his family had been known for, instead shifting and changing to the signature cat-like yellow Witchers were known for. The Trial was never merciful, and it's said three in ten boys are killed from its effects. Victor was the only one out of his group of three to survive the ordeal. [big]Y[/big]ears have passed. Decades on top of decades. Witchers, unlike humans, don't age at quite the same rate. Appearing in his thirties, the witcher Victor has lived on to be nearly eighty years of age, collecting his fair share of scars and trophies along the way. With time comes experience, with experience comes stories, and Victor has more than a few tales to tell around the heat of a hearth. Two blades at his back, Victor finds himself specializing in the alchemical side of witchering, taking an interest during his youth at Kaer Morhen in the brewing of oils, potions, and decoctions. He's known by a few to be 'Victor Green', a play on his last name, and the color associated with alchemy among other monster slayers. Should you ever have need of someone who kills monsters, require the aid of a witcher, 'Green' is always up for hire when not on current jobs. The degreee is arbitary. The definition’s blurred. If I’m to choose between one evil and another… I’d rather not choose at all. Vampires: Let's start with a classic, shall we? A classic that has so many variations and subtypes that it's amazing no one's made a blasted dictionary on these things. Right, Vampires are fickle, strange beings. Undead, yet never rotting, victims of Poriphic-Hemophilia all have one thing in common: Bloodlust. Hunger that defies all logic and reason for the very essence of a living being. Add in an near inability to die via natural causes, a rampant healing factor, and an alluring nature, and you have a serious problem on your hands. Extreme caution is advised when dealing with a creature of the night, never, never underestimate a vampire if you're faced with one. Smelling salts that haze the mind are suggested to combat their 'Domination' techniques, as well as vials of blessed holy water. Stakes to the heart, while thought to be an instant solution to a Leech, tend to merely paralyze the creature. Therefore, stakes should be used as a form of immobalization. One especially cruel, yet effective form of interrogation used against vampires is to stake one in the heart, and while they're paralyzed are placed in chains to a rooftop. You then have as much time as one needs to ask for questions, using the inevitability of the sunrise as your weapon against them. Warning: If a leech, for any reason, is able to walk among the light of the sun, run. You are dealing with a creature far beyond your means or understanding. No one should encounter a Daywalker. Werewolves: Lycanthropy, 'The Garou', Wolfmen, however you call them they all have one thing in common: The Curse. Werewolves suffer from a curse as ancient at the world itself, though scholars and historians can't agree on what exactly caused them to carry the disease they do. Classic cases are afflicted during nights of the full moon, the shift in the celestial body's position with the earth triggering their transformation. Others are susceptible to turning while exposed to extreme bouts of emotion, such as rage or passion. Even rarer are cases where the beast is able to shift from form to form at will. The latter in this case should be feared above all, as the best way to kill a werewolf is while they are not in their war form. Men are easier slain than a wolf in a rage, after all. Silver is like poison to them, weapons made from the metal piercing their hides with ease. I personally find sulfur bombs laced in silver shavings to be the most effective, as breathing in shards of the metal eradicates a were beast's lungs and internal organs. Moondust bombs, as well as oil derived from wolf's liver, wolfsbane flowers, and dog tallow will make the beasts feel burning, intense pain when applied to a silver blade. Undead: This is excluding vampires, of course. By 'Undead' I of course mean walking corpses, the living dead that roam the darkest corners of our world and plague our nations. Whether conjured by necromancers to serve their nefarious purposes, or brought on by a curse laid down at the site of their graves, or even made living through disease or alchemy, the undead can always be dealt with no matter the case. Piercing weapons are not recommended to be used while dealing with zombies, ghouls, or shamblers. Blunt force trauma to skull, decapitation, and destruction of the brain are all usual sources of success when dealing with unlife. Corpses that cannot run can easily be kept at bay, yet are terrifying in droves and large numbers. Undead capable of chase and higher speeds must be taken with extreme caution. Do not let them box you into a corner, do not let them surround you. Death is frightening, but nothing is as nightmarish as being the meal of a swarm of undead. Holy water, fire, blunt and slashing weapons, or even explosives are all recommended with slaying them. Be warned. Demons; Conjured Beasts: This... this is trickier than other entries. A beast can be slain, they can be hunted and found, and justly put down. A demon, devils, succubi, beings that are summoned to this plane of existence, are not the same in any way, shape, or form to beasts of the physical plane. This entry is not to educate you on how to slay a demon. This entry is here to educate you on banishing them, expunging them from our plane, and to protect yourself from their presence. Glyphs and Circles of Magic are highly recommended when dealing with demonic forces. Rings of salt, holy water, and places of worship all have significant power of those from the underworld and beyond. Be warned, a simple imp is nothing compared to a succubus or an incubus. You must practice extreme caution, and always be wary. The temptations the minions of the underworld can offer are alluring, and they will do all they can to make you fall. Remember, even those from beyond our realm can all feel the bite of silver. [small]All art belongs to the ever wonderful, Sticks and Sharks.[/small]
