[collapse=Elevator pitch (for the lazy/tired/impatient/time-constrained)]What's in this box is all you need for determining if this character suits your needs. If it seems like it does, I'd suggest reading the rest.
Uleva is a harsh, reserved, and stringent anthropomorphic shark ex-pirate. A female with a weightlifter's build. A pubkeep by trade. Lives in a quiet seaside town. Is serious and dismissive towards strangers, and doesn't take kindly to having her honor threatened. Suited for an everyday pub scene, adventure on the high seas, and/or high-impact sexual violence. Doesn't care who she sleeps with as long as she's dominating... Or at least thinks she is.
[/collapse]
"No, you come over here and you lick it up!"[heading]Uleva Tunacant[/heading]Never in my life have I met a woman so uncompromising; her presence dominating, her words oppressive. She stands a head taller and is in much better shape than most. She hates a change of schedules, wanting to be in full control of her life. A shark she is, not like the average landlubber. Her body is covered in scars and aged abrasions, her choice of clothing unassuming and practical, her looks unhoned. How does a being such as this come to being? Sit down for a while, let me light my pipe, and I shall share a tale of fantastical adventure with a side dish of sobering misfortune. Since a wee lass, she'd thought herself one of the dapper gals that side of Hanki, although reality always had a funny way of proving otherwise. Never a bright one she was, and as life pulls her from one end to another, she ended up working by the docks. One of the ships she'd been tasked with reeling in was looking awful bigger than usual, but she thought nothing of it. She was a bit taken aback by the company it brought along. These hardened sailors wooed her with ease, teasing her with propositions of becoming a pirate recruit. Of course she would comply; of course she would let them blindfold her and take her to their 'secret pirate hideout'. When the folds were removed, she turns to the nearest porthole to see where she is- The wide open sea. No way out. She decided to make the best of her not-completely-unexpected lifestyle change, picking herself back up and earning the respect of her peers by partaking in the one thing they can all see manifest into something in this cruel world: Work. In that time, she's seen her share while swindling on the high seas: Robbing ships, smuggling some of them dank Kraiandan spiceherbs, running tactical espionage action on ports... You name it. Gig by gig, she was dismantled and reconstructed by her peers, turned from a lump of barnacles leeching off the paint of a submarine into the kind of loyal yet ambitious crewmate any pirate worth their sea-salt could respect. Molded into an honor culture, she quickly learned the hard way that sometimes a well-placed fist can say more in a split second than an epic poem could when spelled out by the letter. Formerly a passive commentator, she is now an active achiever. Constant peer pressure left little room for displays of weakness. She often had to dress up as a male to blend in to her company better when visiting towns, as female pirates were a rare and immediately suspicious sight, although not completely unheard of. There was one other in her crew that had to go through these same troubles: A certain Banne O'Nellie, a northern jacana by species and a former baroness. Banne was originally the subject of a kidnapping, but she turned the tables on her captors and proved that her excellent tactical skills were far more valuable than what the ransom would pay out. This lady provided much-needed support for Uleva during the darker periods of her recruitment. Then, as force majeure made itself known, their boat was attacked by local doggers. By that point Uleva had well-learned these are not the kinds of pirates preschoolers play make-believe about, but she still knew they wouldn't go down without a struggle. What ensued was a bloody firefight that had both ships crashing ashore and merging into one wreck, leaving but one survivor. She knew that the local coast's doggers would find out about this 'mishap' sooner or later, so there was no choice but to intervene. Nobody must find the evidence that points to where the rest of their folk are hiding out. She takes slight satisfaction in this turn of events, in remembrance of what they did to her when she first stepped on that boat, but still, to see all that history disappear into literal ashes behind her living eyes as she crawls out of the wreck... Now she's stuck tending a crusty seaside pub where the inane conversations of local would-have-beens and should-have-seens are all that fill the dead air, that is when there's no brawl drowning it all out. The recent phenomenon of the middle-class frillie-sharks who come by her shanty to talk of how they stuck it to their husbands the other day deserves a roll of the eye at best, a scoff at worst. Uleva doesn't expect them to understand "how things really are", not with an ocean's worth of difference between them. In her off time, she likes to keep herself in good shape by hitting the barbells, which may not be enough to offset possible health problems from occasionally enjoying the odd imported cigar. Uleva may not want to admit it, but she does love to fuck. She's dominant, though, very dominant, to the point at which if she doesn't feel like she's the one doing the fucking, it will probably be a disappointing experience for her. Sometimes things get a little rough; choking, scratching, cutting, biting, pissing, straight-up beating the shit out of each other... She can't say this doesn't turn her on even more. The misty-eyed fish has released her anchors for now. It's been a whole year since the wreck, the thought of returning to a life in the bilge occasionally alluring her out of her comatose stasis, but for now she's got to wait for the talk of the town to blow over. The doggers are casting wider nets than ever, trying to pull scoundrels like her out of their hidey-holes. A storm is approaching. The storm of ages is here. Better have a strong hull and a firm keel. Uleva sounds a bit like Fiona Apple. On the flipside, too much pre-planning (or 'brainstorming', as some call it) can result in a feeling similar to having a book spoiled before I even started reading it. Plus, it's wasted effort that would be better spent actually roleplaying. If you get a really good idea, I'd actually prefer if you kept it as a surprise for later. The only thing I think must be well thought out is the basic premise of the plot, the 'hook' to build upon: Whether our characters know each other or not, and under which circumstances they meet if they're not interacting to begin with.
[heading]Post perspective and tense[/heading]
I mostly write in third person for the sake of more flexibility and because nothing much else works when there's more than two players. I can also write in first/second/third perspective just fine: First when describing my own character, second when describing your character, and third when describing other characters. Also, I pretty much always write in historical present. Since we're more or less coming up with stuff on the fly, it should give a nice feeling that everything is also happening right now within the story's own context. Makes things seem more urgent and tangible. Also makes it easy to detail past and future events within the story's own context. At least that's how I rationalize the habit.
[heading]On dom/sub roles[/heading]
Practically every sexual theme can be divvied up into a relationship between the recipient of an act and the administer of it. This is no surprise, as pecking orders are an important part of nature and something every human being innately understands. Still, the overarching structure of a RP doesn't have to revolve entirely around the power dynamics between a set submissive and a set dominant, which is the way I prefer it.
[heading]IC intro, OOC intro?[/heading]
I don't care. As long as you can catch my interest with a good hook, I'm in. I will respond in whichever PoV you approached me with.
[heading]Limiting communications[/heading]
Due to my liking of compartmentalizing- my preference of not having my social circles bleeding into each other- and my general disinterest in the lives of others beyond what common interests we share, I won't be talking to people outside of f-list if I've met them on f-list. Exceptions to this will only occur with my explicit consent, meaning no hinting or implications but a very clearly stated interest to maintain some form of bond beyond roleplay.
[heading]Have fun![/heading]
We're both here just... For kicks, right? As long as you're cool, I'm cool. If you're being a dick, I'll still be my usual cool, but in a way you'll find wholly unsatisfying. Feel free to toss some lewdness and character in there with those hellos and goodbyes, it's not just strictly business with me. Worry not what I think about your writing if you haven't specifically asked for feedback, I trust you to do the best you feel you can. Roleplaying, like life itself, is an eternal learning experience, and we all have to go through infancy. I firmly believe that an eager learner is better company that the bitter learned. Finally: say "fuzzy pickles" to me if you've read this far.[/collapse]
[small]KinkNote 1: Kinks are completely negotiable, except for the ones under 'no'. They indicate which things I've found work with the character's intended purpose and which don't: a matter I'm sometimes wrong on. KinkNote 2: My custom kinks are not any more important than the defaults, but I've still got them all on top because those are the ones people don't necessarily know to look for. KinkNote 3: Some kinks are hard to insert into a RP if it's already been running for a while, such as the ones that detail scenes, physics, culture, sex-casualness, etc. Try to mention them in advance so we don't have to worry about retconning.[/small]
