All lithe muscle and smooth skin, all virility and smirking arrogance, the Incubus Lord lounges on a throne of bones.

Despite all his past conquests, Kalrekos has grown jaded in his old age. His underlings, to their credit, carry their chosen catches to their lord first, but he most often dismisses the offering, leaving the girl to the service of the lesser demon and returning his mind to the abyss of his dreamless slumber.

His realm is one of smooth stone, often shaped like flesh but rigid and indestructible. Through these cold caverns blows a warm and rhythmic breeze, like the sleeping breaths of an enormous beast.

Of the demons that have worked their way onto the soil and torment us, perhaps the most vile is the incubus. For his evil and tricks are not that of the lesser demons who simply try to tempt the righteous to wickedness. No, he is a being of sexual energy and lust that uses that lust and pleasure to steal the souls of innocent women. In fact, the incubus, along with his feminine counterpart the succubus, is among the few demons that can take a mortal's soul against their will, but only when the mortal gives in to pleasure.

A woman who lays with the creature and can not keep herself from reaching climax, whether she has chosen to sleep with him or not, will lose her soul. However, accounts do suggest that truly holy women are safe, that those who can resist the pleasure are safe and that, in fact, if the beast reaches climax first, it is said that he then owes a favor to his victim and that it can be called on for great wealth.

Like many of the higher order of demons, the incubus can appear human, in fact, he can take on the appearance of any man and is said to, at times, tempt righteous women by taking the form of one they trust or love.

To be brief, I find the High Exorcist's picture half-accurate. His citing of the common folk wisdom of the incubus as, like many demons, a stealer of souls, is vague and in likely danger of misleading.

I will say that my library is replete with the testimony of dozens of women and girls who have survived their climactic encounters without so much as a hair having been taken. By all accounts that can be verified under proper conditions, it would seem that those who do not return from an incubus' attentions are [i]not[/i] those who cannot refrain from an ecstatic episode, but much more specifically, those who climax whilst receiving the demon's seed.

Even then, however, I am not myself convinced of the notion of their fate being some kind of soul-theft, whatever that would entail. Rather, I note that in seventy-two out of eighty cases, within a fortnight of such a disappearance, at least one village man or boy tells of a dream involving what I recognize to be a succubus. I trust Your Majesty's wisdom is keen to my meaning.
