[collapse=Elevator pitch (for the lazy/tired/impatient/time-constrained)]What's in this box is all you need for determining if this character suits your needs. If it seems like it does, I'd suggest reading the rest.
Gobau is a gawky, affectionate, and phlegmatic anthropomorphic beetle wildman. Technically a male-herm, but since he's only got one hole down there, he's marked as male. Lives in the middle of nowhere, in a jungle. Has built his own means of survival into a clearing, where he stays most of the time. Seldom knows what to do with strangers, but tries to be as compassionate and patient with them as possible. Suited for lighthearted nature-oriented adventure, or the opposite: terrifying body horror encounters with local wildlife. Likes pretty much all of the sexes equally, but places a slight preference on dominant partners.
[/collapse]
"Who? What? Where? Too many possibilities!"[heading]Gobau[/heading]One morning, Gobau was walking through his jungle as usual. Then, he saw a papaya tree growing smack dab in the middle of the clearing that he usually crosses. He stopped right next to it, wondering how this tree had appeared there overnight. He picked a single papaya and ate from it. Oh, how sweet it tasted! He wondered no longer, and simply continued on his way to the other side of the jungle. Gobau's species typically live in well-hidden, clustered colonies under the roots of gigantic trees. He has never seen other beetles, as his mother laid her eggs quite far away from any of their kin. Why she did such an unusual thing is left to mystery. Right after hatching into the cutest little larva, Gobau climbed up the tree at whose base his egg had been and stripped it of all its leaves over the course of a few months, instar after instar growing into what he is now. After returning to the ground as an imago, he discovered to his sorrow that none of his siblings had hatched. As he was weeping at the root of his birthtree, right where the eggs had been laid, he discovered a beautiful jewel, a red orb, among the stillborns. He named it the "Beetle's Eye" and started carrying it with him. The rest of his life, he's been setting up a safe locale known as Charawe, a sparser area of the jungle where he has constructed numerous useful devices such as storage pits and zipwires out of the materials that are available to him. When Gobau isn't living an easy life in his corner of the wilderness, he's going on adventures in its other parts. Some of them may get very strange, perhaps a little psychedelic. All sorts of weird creatures may be found in such an exotic location. He hopes to one day find his way back to his kin as a result of adventuring. As a blend of insect and man, Gobau's anatomy is a little unusual, although it may not be immediately obvious from the reference. He has a "cloaca", or the insect equivalent thereof; listed kinks referring to what would be his anus shall refer to this instead. Both solid and liquid waste are expelled through here as a combined product. His penis is neatly hidden away when unaroused and comes out to play quite quickly when coaxed. His mouth has no tongue or teeth, but is very tight, warm, and wet, more so than most species'. This is because it's actually also his stomach, as some bugs have it. Things will start to burn if held in there for too long, but before that, all that can be sensed is a pleasant tingling feeling. Smooth cartilage runs over his mouth, substituting lips and making for his chewing apparatus. The rest of his exoskeleton is also smooth, porous and ridged in places. Mandibles work as you'd expect them to. On top of all this, as some insects are hermaphroditic, so is Gobau: He can get pregnant with eggs through his cloaca. This bug has it all, doesn't he? Gobau could also be a wasp instead of a beetle, but only one or the other per storyline. The only things that this changes are that he has a fully functional pair of wings, a venomous stinger that both paralyzes and causes intense pain, and more musculature. He'd still be just as well-armored and heavy as before. Personality-wise, he'd still be his same old bumbling, cheerful, submissive self. He could be the size of an actual insect, and if that's the case, he's gotten there using a sacred artifact of his tribe: the "Beetle's Eye". With this orb, any anthropomorphic creature can be temporarily turned to the actual size of the animal they're based on (lasts for about 3-4 posts with a cooldown of about 10 posts). Hybrids' size will be based on the sum of their parts. Anthropomorphic beings not based on any creature existing in real life are immune. If you're up to it, he could very easily use it on you! Some jungle ambiance, for those who like that sort of thing. Gobau sounds a bit like Brian Eno.
Your vehicle crashes into Kraianda from above or beaches ashore its coast, depending on if you're going by air or sea. You wander into the jungle and find Gobau... Or maybe he finds you!

You're an explorer, an ecologist, a surveyor, etc. who ventures into Kraianda for scientific reasons. There, you either find Gobau right away, or get into trouble beforehand.

You're a fellow peaceful inhabitant of the jungles, come to spend some time with Gobau either as a stranger or someone he already knows.

You're a predative entity who stumbles upon Gobau and sees him as a potential snack and/or plaything.

Gobau finds himself in the middle of modern society! How does he conform? Do you come in right away, or when he has already been integrating for a while?
[/collapse]
[collapse=Credits/Disclaimer]Art by WhiteMantis Please don't hesitate to correct me if you believe I'm wrong. On the flipside, too much pre-planning (or 'brainstorming', as some call it) can result in a feeling similar to having a book spoiled before I even started reading it. Plus, it's wasted effort that would be better spent actually roleplaying. If you get a really good idea, I'd actually prefer if you kept it as a surprise for later. The only thing I think must be well thought out is the basic premise of the plot, the 'hook' to build upon: Whether our characters know each other or not, and under which circumstances they meet if they're not interacting to begin with.
[heading]Post perspective and tense[/heading]
I mostly write in third person for the sake of more flexibility and because nothing much else works when there's more than two players. I can also write in first/second/third perspective just fine: First when describing my own character, second when describing your character, and third when describing other characters. Also, I pretty much always write in historical present. Since we're more or less coming up with stuff on the fly, it should give a nice feeling that everything is also happening right now within the story's own context. Makes things seem more urgent and tangible. Also makes it easy to detail past and future events within the story's own context. At least that's how I rationalize the habit.
[heading]On dom/sub roles[/heading]
Practically every sexual theme can be divvied up into a relationship between the recipient of an act and the administer of it. This is no surprise, as pecking orders are an important part of nature and something every human being innately understands. Still, the overarching structure of a RP doesn't have to revolve entirely around the power dynamics between a set submissive and a set dominant, which is the way I prefer it.
[heading]IC intro, OOC intro?[/heading]
I don't care. As long as you can catch my interest with a good hook, I'm in. I will respond in whichever PoV you approached me with.
[heading]Limiting communications[/heading]
Due to my liking of compartmentalizing- my preference of not having my social circles bleeding into each other- and my general disinterest in the lives of others beyond what common interests we share, I won't be talking to people outside of f-list if I've met them on f-list. Exceptions to this will only occur with my explicit consent, meaning no hinting or implications but a very clearly stated interest to maintain some form of bond beyond roleplay.
[heading]Have fun![/heading]
We're both here just... For kicks, right? As long as you're cool, I'm cool. If you're being a dick, I'll still be my usual cool, but in a way you'll find wholly unsatisfying. Feel free to toss some lewdness and character in there with those hellos and goodbyes, it's not just strictly business with me. Worry not what I think about your writing if you haven't specifically asked for feedback, I trust you to do the best you feel you can. Roleplaying, like life itself, is an eternal learning experience, and we all have to go through infancy. I firmly believe that an eager learner is better company that the bitter learned. Finally: say "fuzzy pickles" to me if you've read this far.[/collapse]
[small]KinkNote 1: Kinks are completely negotiable, except for the ones under 'no'. They indicate which things I've found work with the character's intended purpose and which don't: a matter I'm sometimes wrong on. KinkNote 2: My custom kinks are not any more important than the defaults, but I've still got them all on top because those are the ones people don't necessarily know to look for. KinkNote 3: Some kinks are hard to insert into a RP if it's already been running for a while, such as the ones that detail scenes, physics, culture, sex-casualness, etc. Try to mention them in advance so we don't have to worry about retconning.[/small]
