[color=purple]Calamine's[/color] earliest memories were of the white rooms. [small]Bright lights, white tiles, and sterilized environments were all she knew. Confined in a small glass 'room', her life consisted of waiting for the next time she would be fed by the unclear figures that watched her from the outside. Her life became more interesting as she grew older. New '[url=https://static.f-list.net/images/charimage/3765869.jpg]developments[/url]' occurred throughout her body. Her finger's bones expanded, giving her slender 'claws' for hands. Her spine became twisted and misshapen as she grew in height. Most noticeably of all, her jaw seemed to protrude out from her mouth as she grew set upon set of teeth. These facial expansions caused scarrings and severe burn-like areas (not pictured) to appear all over her face. These changes were agonizing, but it brought the attention of the creatures from outside the glass. Soon enough, she began to be studied intensively. Every week, she was taken to meet with a woman who worked to help her better understand her surroundings. After a few months of intensive therapy, the ghoul's awareness of the world became much more distinct. She soon became able to communicate with the researchers on a very basic level, though she was unable to form words of her own. As her growth spurts became more severe, she became dependent on the lotion-like drugs the researchers would apply to her face the relive the pain of her rashes and burns. However, everything was soon to change for her...[/small]

Eventually, the decision was made to transfer the ghoul to a much larger research facility where she would be better studied and taken care of. Disaster struck on the trip to the new facility when the truck that carrying her skidded over on its side, causing the vehicle to collapse and killing the driver. The ghoul, knocked out clean by the crash, awoke at night in the apartment of a concerned wanderer. The ghoul was in a panicked state when she woke up and was completely overwhelmed by the new environment. Her senses overloaded, she assaulted the person who had taken her in without warning, swiftly killing her. However, she was not calmed in the slightest, even after eating the corpse. Loud, unfamiliar sounds dominated her senses, and outside the window she saw an unfamiliar, threatening world. Smashing the glass and stumbling out onto the ground, the ghoul quickly escaped to the most secluded, dark place she could find, the sewers...[/small]

Many years have passed since that day, but the ghoul still remains in the same position as she was before. With that said, she has adjusted to the 'city life' very well. Living as a scavenger in the sewers, she emerges to the surface at night (sunlight gives her headaches. Not to mention, people usually don't have the best reaction to the ghoul's appearance) to secretly collect food and medicinal supplies from dumpsters of restaurants and pharmacies. Encounters with humans haven't ended well for either party. Though she initially assumed that they were creatures like her, she soon discovered that most were openly fearful or even violent when she showed her 'quirks'. Though she enjoys the meal a corpse brings, she mostly attempts to avoid being seen by late-night stragglers because of the trouble they often cause. Though rumors of 'sewer monsters' exist about her presence, the ghoul remains hidden from public knowledge, living under the feet of creatures resembling her.[/small]

Calamine has no recollection of any sort of life before the research facility. Though her true race is unknown, she's referred to as a ghoul because of her similarity in appearance to humans and her carnivorous nature.

The ghoul's backstory is alterable depending on what time-period you wish to play with her in. Though made with a modern setting in mind, I don't see any reasons why she wouldn't work in a high-fantasy or alternate timeline setting.
