And while all of it happened, a new revelation shakes the foundations of the noble houses in the background: the rise of Ahmose Sutekh III, a young master of the Someht household. After the death of Sutekh II in the fields of battle, a new nobleman was to be called to duty, and the task was answered by the first child of the family, Ahmose. Fresh out of his nominal studies with the confidence of a man set out to fulfill his fate, Ahmose went through his ceremonies already devising his plans to keep the balance with the other noble houses, waiting for them to make their move as the power struggle surged with Sutekh II's passing. Seeing the world change as he grew into teenagehood, the young nobleman had a taste of what was in for him: far too many folks of other houses want a piece of the Pharaoh's cake composed of favors and blessings, and they were not holding punches to reach that slice. Carrying the responsibility of owning a noble house from the still youngest life, Ahmose was fearful and yet anxious to perform well in the name of his ancestors. While his other brothers were still too infant to join in the ranks, the young noble had to take over the reigns of his house, with the help of the family's counselors and allies. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________ [big]A Treaty on Egyptian Nobility and Soc--ZZzzzzzz...[/big] Within ancient Egyptian society, the nobles were a class of people related to the pharaoh, priests, scribes, doctors, lawyers, or important military personnel. Nobles ruled the regions of Egypt (Nomes) and were responsible for making local laws and keeping order in their region: their role was to be put in place to oversee the lands that the peasants worked. The lands were taxed and the goods went towards paying the government. At that time, the payments were made in the form of crops or cattle, and the crops were also used to pay skilled workers and peasants for their labor and participation regarding governmental projects. From the Noble families often emerged the Royal dynasties of the Pharaohs. In the Old Kingdom, the courts of the local nobility where the royal centre for cultural predominance. Noble families sometimes contended and challenged the authority of the Pharaoh They were pillars of social stability, and provided local political cohesion to their regions in times of failing central power. From the Middle Kingdom onwards the power and independence of the Nobility was diminished, and their administrative functions were taken over by the Viziers. Each Nome was governed by a Noble, remained in place for more than three millennia. Under the system that prevailed, the country was divided into 42 Nomes: 20 comprising Lower Egypt, whilst Upper Egypt was divided into 22. Nobles had very little role in the role of the central authority. The status of the local nobility was more independent of the central authority than that of the royal administrators such as the Vizier and High Priest who flourished around the person of the Pharaoh. [/big][icon]right quote[/icon] [collapse=Small Facts] *Ahmose means "son of Iah", composed of the name of the Egyptian god IAH combined with the word mes "son" or mesu "be born". This was the name of the first pharaoh of the 18th dynasty. He defeated the Hyksos and drove them from Egypt. *For historical accuracy sake, consider that the period of Ahmose's rise to nobility is around the 20th Dinasty (1189 – 1077 BC) [/collapse]
