#1: Good Writing And Good ERP are not the same thing.[/b]

A common mistake in ERP is to write as if you're adhering to good writing standards. If you want an example of good, clear novel writing, go read the first Harry Potter book for an example. It keeps things brisk and moving quickly.

This is, of course, perfectly fine, but the actual skillset you exercise to get your partner going is fairly different to what you want to use when writing a book. Novels and suchlike most often describe things in broad, sweeping terms to avoid getting too dense in the act of painting an entire world.

People most often crave more density in erp. A "good" ERP post can consist of writing 500+ words about how GOOD your character's butt looks in their jeans and your audience will eat that up. The act of participating in erotic writing indicates that people read the original stuff and wanted more detail, so indulge them.

As an example, the character of Frodo Baggins is described in Tolkien's books as "a stout fellow with red cheeks, taller than some hobbits and fairer than most, with a cleft chin, a bright eye, and a perky personality." This conveys a LOT of information to the reader with only a few words and is artfully arranged for sure, but your partners are going to want a lot more detail than that. Think about what people could find appealing about your character and play that up. Are they cuddly/rough? What's masculine/feminine about them? Just linger on the juicy details and remember it's very, very hard to ever go into "too much" detail.

[b]#2: Visual Aids And Giving Your Character "Weight"[/b]

Speaking of detail, if you're struggling to write a description of your character's cock, go and find pictures of cocks. Keep a folder of your favourite cocks on hand and think about what makes them look strong and sexy. Pick the one that best fits your character and try to put it down into words. If they say a picture's worth a thousand words, then you might as well try to wring a few out here and there!

Important features of body-parts to focus on are the weight they have, how easily they move, how they smell, how much visual impact they have and noises they might make in being interacted with. One of the worst mistakes an ERPer can make is describing their action without relating it to how their character performs it. Example below:

This lacks any personal tailoring or customization. Here's the same description for a matronly MILF:

[i]"She sashayed across the room, wide hips swaying from side to side, high-heels clicking noisily on the tile floor."[/i]

And the same for a younger female:

[i]"She rushed across the room on tiptoes, feet seeming like they barely touched the ground! She couldn't wait to see what was awaiting her on the other side of the room!"[/i]

And for a large, intimidating male:

[i]"Each footfall he took thundered in the ears of everyone present. Large, powerful muscles shifted under his skin, at rest right now but able to drive him to action at a moment's notice."[/i]

This is soooo rewarding and something I'm always looking for in my partner's posts. It shows you care about your character and want them to be a believable part of their world.

[b]#3: Cater To Your Audience[/b]

Earlier we said that spending 500 words on a description of an ass was bad writing but great ERP. If your partner is really into asses, this applies doubly. Look at what your partner likes. Picture their response while you're writing. Write stuff you'd want to read if you were them. If you know they love your big, fat breasts, then start writing about your breasts and never stop. Most ERP is a one-on-one interaction, so don't just give everyone the same thing, take the time to really lavish them with affection and let them know they're special by taking the time to include details that only they would appreciate.[/collapse]
