Astrid hails from a cold land, one that breeds hardy people. The frost makes farming difficult, and raiding a necessity, and so the men from the northern kingdoms are formidable warriors who raid both eachother and neighbouring lands for both goods and glory. But while it is considered perfectly acceptable for a woman to know how to defend herself, they can never become warriors.
This rule, however, is one that this particular little girl seems determined to ignore.

Astrid is young, but skilled with a sword, better than all the boys in the village. But her oft-stated desire to become a warrior draws murmers from the elders, murmers about knowing her place.

And so, with a sword she 'borrowed' from her father, Astrid set out one night to seek adventure and glory on her own.
Will she find it, or will she find herself out of her depth?

[collapse=Astrid the Inept]In this flavour, Astrid is not as good as she thinks she is. She may be able to beat boys her own age with a wooden sword, but she hasn't realised how different this is from real combat. Her family have tried to tame her craving for adventure for very good reasons, and she's just heading for a bad end.[/collapse]

[collapse=Astrid the Solar]For the Exalted setting, Astrid is a child of a northern tribe with heroic ambitions. Inspired by the Bull of the North, she sets out to prove her might, and has her courage (if not her common sense) rewarded.
Now a dawn caste solar exalted, Astrid's already prodigious skill is enhanced by the power of Sol Invictus. But with these new powers, and her eagerness to use them, comes plenty of unwelcome attention.
In addition to her shortsword, Astrid has as Daiklave she found buried in the roots of a snow-covered tree. She keeps it stored Elsewhere when she isn't using it, not because she fears the Wyld Hunt, but because it's difficult to travel while carrying a sword bigger than she is.[/collapse]

[collapse=Astrid the Chosen]Similar to Astrid the Solar, this version of Astrid is from a less specific fantasy world, where a deity of some description has taken an interest in her. This deity might be benevolent, smiling on the little girl's pluck and helping her in small ways, a gentle guiding hand along the path to greatness.
Or perhaps they're more mischievous, throwing things in Astrid's way for their own amusement.[/collapse]

[collapse=Astrid the Apprentice]Looking for adventure, Astrid's wanderings bring her across the path of a hero, the kind that Astrid wants to be. Whether they like it or not, this individual now has to deal with her following them, seeing herself as their protoge.[/collapse]
